 Rosa Villar Córdova was born in Lima.  She started her musical studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Perú.  In 1997 she traveled to the United States to continue her piano studies with Susan Starr.  During the following years, she also took lessons with the Yugoslavian pianist Kemal Gekic Roberta Ross, and Gordon Roberts.  In 2001 she obtained her bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and begun her Master studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, studying with Nina Svetlanova.Rosa Villar has been a winner in many competitions such as the National Society of Arts and Letters, Central Florida Symphony, The Boca Raton Music Competition, and the FIU Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in the United States, and a first prizewinner in National competitions in Perú such as the National Concerto Competition and the Southern Perú Corporation Music Award.  She has also won scholarships to participate in Music Festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, International Institute for Young Musicians in Kansas City, and Marguess International in Switzerland. She has given many solo and chamber music performances in America and Europe, which include performances with international artists such as Keith Robinson and Robert Davidovich.  Her Orchestra performances include the National Symphony Orchestra in Perú, The Lima Philharmonic, The Trujillo Symphony Orchestra, and the Florida International University Symphony Orchestra.  She has also been invited to perform as a soloist and as a chamber musician in Master classes and lessons given by world-renowned artists such as Vladimir Feldsman, Mischa Dichter, John Perry, Arthur Pizarro, Glenn Dicterow and Isac Stern. In 2002, she moved to Rome and took lessons with the French pianist Marylene Mouquet and the Italian pianist Sergio Perticaroli.  During the time she spent in Italy, she performed many solo recitals.  In 2003 she was awarded a grant by the province of Rome for a music project.  In 2004 she came back to New York to finish her music studies and she was awarded with the Marion and Eubie Blake scholarship. She is currently studying with the pianist Miyoko Lotto and finishing the Master degree at New York University where she has also been appointed to teach piano as well.

Invited Singers

Carla López-Speziale, Mezzo-soprano

Recognized for the richness and agility of her voice, mezzo-soprano Carla López Speziale is equally in demand for opera and concert performances, and has performed with numerous companies in Mexico and the US. Some of the roles she has performed are Carmen (Carmen) Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Isabella (L'italiana in Algeri), Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice) and she sang the role of Jo in the international premiere of Adamo's Little Women. In 2004 she was invited to China to sing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in the inaugural concerts of the Shanghai Philharmonic and in a few days she will be going back to China to sing the title role in Carmen. This fall she will also be traveling to France and Switzerland to perform in the European premiere of Dazzi’s En susurros los muertos.

A Fulbright scholar, Miss López-Speziale holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Manhattan School of Music.

Puerto Rican soprano Silka Cardona

Has over seven years of performance experience singing in operas, zarzuelas and musical theater in Puerto Rico and New York City.  Ms. Cardona has sung leading roles in productions such as Hansel and Gretel, The Finishing School, The Old Maid and the Thief, El Barberillo de Lavapiés, and Bastian und Bastienne.  She holds an MA in Music Performance from New York University and a BA in Music Education from the University of Puerto Rico.  Ms. Cardona has also performed in Europe at the Assisi Music Festival and the Spoleto Vocal Arts Symposia.  She is delighted to be a member and co-founder of the quartet Ensueño, dedicated to the performance of Puerto Rican and Latin-American classical music.   At the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts she works as a voice teacher, choir conductor, and collaborates with the Drama Department as vocal coach and musical director of the Musical Theatre Workshop.  Ms. Cardona is also a faculty member of the Great Neck Arts Center, where she works as a voice and elementary piano instructor.

Puerto-Rican born violinist JOSE PIETRI-COIMBRE

 has held principal positions at the Puerto Rico Sinfonietta, the National Orchestral Institute Orchestra, One World Symphony, and the Queens Philharmonia, being featured soloist in 2003 with the latter.  He has also been a member of the Puerto Rico Opera Chorus, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, and the Sebastian Chamber Players. Pietri-Coimbre has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician across the Nation, including several appearances in the Chamber Music Live Series at the Lefrak Concert Hall in New York City.  He has also performed both instrumental and vocal music at the Casals Festival, the Lincoln Center Outdoors Festival, and Advent Singing Vienna.  Mr. Pietri- Coimbre served as Head of Strings and Concertmaster for the Siena Summer Session for the Music and the Arts on 2005 and 2006, performing chamber and orchestral music in various venues in Italy and Switzerland.  He is a founding member of Cuarteto Ensueño, a group mainly dedicated to the performance of Spanish and Latin American art music of instrumental and vocal genres, with which he also performs as tenor soloist. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Music/Violin Award from the Institute of Puerto Rico in New York in 2005.  Mr. Pietri-Coimbre studied at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory with Jose Figueroa, at the Univeristy of Maryland with members of the Guarneri String Quartet, and at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York with Grigory Kalinovsky and Daniel Phillips.  Mr. Pietri-Coimbre teaches at Third Street Music School and the Mozart Academy in New York, and serves as Spanish Music Director at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in New York City.
